Family Support

“See a child differently and you’ll see a different child”

(Dr Stuart Shanker)

Hello

If you are on this page you are either looking on behalf of a parent/primary carer or you are one and you are likely to be thinking about some family difficulties that are going on at this time.

Firstly as a parent you are not alone, I meet with parents in a confidential and non-judgmental way to explore your experiences and how they feel to you.

Usually I suggest we meet weekly (in person ideally, or online; with phone and email as a back up for on-going communications). I will listen carefully to what you can tell me about your hopes for our work together.

I work slightly differently with different people some people need a space to:

  • simply talk it all through
  • some need to really take off the mask and use the space to feel their feelings and to momentarily take a step back from the constantly coping and providing
  • some need space to reflect on the practical next steps and navigating systems
  • some want lots of information about how children develop and how relationships really work.
  • You might be all of the above and that is OK.

I have lots of suggestions, frameworks and perspectives that might help and I will introduce you to the ones that I feel are most relevant, you can take these and then work out how they apply in your day-to-day. Together we will then unpack this and work on your unique situation.

I do charge for this service but our first (up to 30 minutes) conversation will not be chargeable, so feel free to get in touch.

I truly believe there is no such thing as the perfect parent and research supports the ‘good enough’ parent. If you are on this page you are likely already good enough and wondering how to be even better.

In the words of Maya Angelou:

“We all do our best until we know better. When we know better we can do better.”

Best Wishes, from

Heather
